Is the NordVPN Black Friday deal real? The plans and renewal prices explained
The sale price is real, but the big percentage is measured against the renewal price, not against what the plan cost last month.
NordVPN pays us a commission when you buy through our links. It never changes which deals we list or what we say about them.
Is the NordVPN Black Friday deal real? On November 5, 2026, NordVPN’s pricing page carried a Black Friday banner offering “78% off + 3 extra months”. The prices behind it are real, and one plan is cheaper than when we first checked it. But every NordVPN percentage is measured against the renewal price. A badge tells you a price is lower than something. We wanted to know lower than what.
The short answer
Of NordVPN’s three 2-year plans, one is cheaper than when we first checked it. Complete fell from $121.23 to $107.73 for the first 27 months between our September 21 and October 23 checks. Basic was $94.23 on both dates.
Worth it if you want a VPN for two years and will either cancel auto-renewal or accept the renewal price. Not worth it if you judge it by the percentage: all of NordVPN’s savings figures compare the intro price with the renewal price.
NordVPN plans in 2026: Basic, Complete and Prime
NordVPN’s pricing page (read November 5, 2026) lists three plans. Last year’s Plus plan no longer appears there. Each plan includes everything in the one before it:
- Basic. The VPN on up to 10 devices, scam and phishing protection, and a Dark Web Monitor for 5 email addresses.
- Complete. Adds antivirus, an ad and tracker blocker, a password manager, 1 TB of encrypted cloud storage, call and message protection, and bank transaction monitoring for US accounts.
- Prime. Adds identity theft insurance (up to $1,000,000), credit monitoring from one bureau, and credit freeze assistance.
If a VPN is all you want, Basic is the plan. Complete only makes sense if you would otherwise pay for a password manager or antivirus.
NordVPN prices: intro, term and renewal
Each term is paid up front. The 1-year and 2-year plans include 3 extra months, so they actually cover 15 and 27 months. After that, NordVPN’s page says each plan renews at a yearly price. Figures from NordVPN’s page on November 5, 2026, before sales tax:

The renewal is where most of the money goes. Basic’s $139.08 a year works out to $11.59 a month, more than three times the $3.49 intro price.
What the Black Friday percentage is measured against
NordVPN says so on its own page, in small print: “Savings: intro vs. renewal prices.” The struck-through figure next to each plan is the renewal price stretched over the same 27 months. For Basic, that is $11.59 × 27 = $312.93, and $94.23 is 69% below it. For Complete, $18.29 × 27 = $493.83, and $107.73 is 78% below it.
That is a fair description, and NordVPN prints it. But it means the “78% off” is not a drop from a former sale price. It is the gap between this year’s intro price and the price you pay from year three. Our how we check a deal guide explains why we always ask what a percentage is measured against.
The Price Check: before the banner and during it
We first recorded NordVPN’s 2-year prices on September 21, 2026, before any Black Friday banner. On October 23 the banner was up. Same plans, same page:

For a second reference point: Tom’s Guide, in a post last updated November 27, 2025, listed last year’s Black Friday 2-year prices as $80.73 for Basic and $132.03 for Complete, with the same $139.08 and $219.48 renewals. So this year’s Basic price is $13.50 higher than last Black Friday’s, and this year’s Complete is $24.30 lower. NordVPN has not announced an end date for the current offer, and Black Friday itself is November 27, 2026, so prices may still move. When we re-checked on October 26, October 29, November 2 and November 5, 2026, all six 1-year and 2-year prices and the three renewal rates were unchanged from October 23. We will keep checking.
The NordVPN Black Friday deal, plan by plan
NordVPN Complete, 2-year plan · REAL DEAL
$3.99 a month, $107.73 for the first 27 months, when we checked on November 5, 2026. It was $121.23 when we checked on September 21.
Of the two plans we checked in September, the only one that got cheaper once the banner went up. It costs $13.50 more than Basic for the first 27 months while adding antivirus, a password manager and cloud storage.
The catch: it renews at $219.48 a year, $80.40 a year more than Basic, so the extras cost far more from year three.

NordVPN Basic, 2-year plan · ORDINARY
$3.49 a month, $94.23 for the first 27 months, when we checked on November 5, 2026. The same price we recorded on September 21.
The cheapest way to get the VPN alone, and a fair price. But the Black Friday banner did not lower it, so there is no reason to rush.
The catch: it renews at $139.08 a year, which is what the 69% is measured against.

NordVPN Prime, 2-year plan · ORDINARY
$6.99 a month, $188.73 for the first 27 months, when we checked on November 5, 2026.
We have no earlier check of our own for Prime. Cybernews listed it at $7.49 a month on October 16, 2026, and Tom’s Guide listed last year’s Black Friday price at $6.89, so this is close to last year’s sale, not below it.
The catch: it renews at $296.28 a year, and NordVPN notes that some of Prime’s identity protection is subject to additional terms.

Four months of Basic monthly ($59.96) cost more than half of the full 27-month Basic plan.
The catch: none beyond the price. It only makes sense if you need a VPN for a month or two.

How to judge a Black Friday VPN price
- Read the total, not the monthly figure. “$3.49 a month” is $94.23 paid on day one.
- Count the months. A 2-year plan with 3 extra months covers 27 months. Divide the total by the months yourself.
- Find the renewal price. It is what you pay from year three. NordVPN prints it under each plan.
- Ask what the percentage is measured against. At NordVPN it is the renewal price, not an earlier sale price.
- Compare with a date before the sale. Basic cost the same in September. Complete didn’t.

How to turn off NordVPN auto-renewal
From NordVPN’s cancellation guide (read November 5, 2026):
- Log in to your Nord Account.
- Open Billing in the left-hand menu.
- In the Auto-renewal section, select Cancel, then confirm with “Cancel auto-renewal”.
The service keeps running until the paid term ends. Timing matters for refunds: NordVPN’s refund policy says the 30-day guarantee is for new subscriptions and that “Once your subscription renews, it’s no longer eligible for a refund under this policy”, unless local law says otherwise. If you paid through Apple’s App Store, NordVPN says Apple handles the refund; Google Play and Amazon Appstore purchases have their own steps on the same page.
What we left out
Coupon codes that other sites call “exclusive”: NordVPN’s affiliate rules don’t allow us to use codes not assigned to us, and we haven’t tested any. Add-ons such as a dedicated IP, which are priced separately. And speed or streaming claims: we check prices and terms, we don’t test VPNs.
